Hello, I’m Amanda.
Nice to meet you! I am an ambitious multimedia journalist with experience covering economic issues, local government and state policy. My reporting has been featured in NPR, The Ohio Newsroom, NHPR, The New Hampshire Bulletin, NH Business Magazine, The Concord Monitor, GBH, The New York Times and elsewhere.
Most recently, I’ve covered Southeast Ohio for WOUB, the region’s public media station.
About me
I am a freelance reporter in Southeast Ohio, passionate about local, public-service journalism.
I spent the last year covering economic issues in Southeast Ohio for Report for America and WOUB. That included housing, childcare, healthcare and policy. If it touched money, I wrote about it!
I am a graduate from the University of Michigan where I studied political science and creative writing. Outside of the classroom, I wore many hats at U-M’s student-run paper, The Michigan Daily. I spent my summers reporting with The New Hampshire Bulletin and New Hampshire Public Radio. I have also worked as a stringer for the New York Times covering the 2024 republican primary and extreme weather in New Hampshire.
Stories I want to tell
I am interested in telling stories which are human-centered, and solutions-focused. I believe local reporting is at the heart of journalism’s role in the democratic process, and I am especially interested in providing coverage to underreported communities and beats.
In Southeast Ohio, I did this by looking for the questions beyond the breaking news headline. I wrote stories about how changes to Medicaid might impact services for people with disabilities and how a debate around rising property taxes impacted local resources like police or fire.
I have also covered some of the emerging challenges New England is facing due to climate change, fostering an interest in environmental reporting. Through my reporting I’ve seen how this beat interacts with a variety of other issues and impacts people from all walks of life, making it especially vital to cover.
